Prof. Al Hero editor of new book: Big Data over Networks
The book explores the principles underpinning large-scale information processing over networks and the crucial interaction between big data and its associated communication, social and biological networks.
Alfred O. Hero, III, John H. Holland Distinguished University Professor of EECS and R. Jamison and Betty Williams Professor of Engineering, is co-editor of the book, Big Data over Networks, published by Cambridge University Press, along with Prof. Shuguang Cui (Texas A&M), Prof. Zhi-Quan Luo (U. Minnesota), and Prof. José Moura (CMU).
The book explores the principles underpinning large-scale information processing over networks and examines the crucial interaction between big data and its associated communication, social and biological networks. Written by experts in the diverse fields of machine learning, optimisation, statistics, signal processing, networking, communications, sociology and biology, this book employs two complementary approaches: first analysing how the underlying network constrains the upper-layer of collaborative big data processing, and second, examining how big data processing may boost performance in various networks. The book is designed for graduate students, scientific researchers and industry practitioners.
Prof. Hero is an internationally recognized expert in the field of signal and image processing. His recent research interests are data science, bioinformatics and personalized health, statistical signal processing and imaging, correlation mining, statistical machine learning and pattern recognition, wearable wireless sensors, sensor networks, and sensor management. He is co-director of the Michigan Institute for Data Science (MIDAS).
